What can I expect when I purchase QuizBowl PRO Desktop or a subscription to QuizBowl PRO Online?
Every QuizBowl PRO Desktop software purchase comes with 2 installs so that you can use 1 on your classroom PC and another 1 on a traveling laptop, but where you install them is up to you. Additional licenses are available for purchase.
Quiz Bowl PRO Online can be used in any web browser - we recommend Chrome for best results. If you want to run multiple matches at the same time, you will need one login for each match you wish to run simulataneously.
Did Slam-In completely disappear?
Current Works, the company that made the famous Slam-In buzzers (the rectangular boxes that run on 9-volt batteries) went out of business in 2018, and unfortunately no replacement buzzers or receivers are available. Quiz Bowl Cowboys LLC is proud to support customers who purchased Slam-In Buzzers. Customers may need an upgrade to Version 3 software, as previous versions are no longer supported by Windows 10/11. The Slam-In Brand has been retired as of August 2024.
You will continue to see the Slam-In Logo, as well as the previous QuizBowl Systems logo and branding throughout our rebranding.
Will there be interference from flourescent lighting or other computer devices?
No, you should experience no interference when using our wireless radio frequency transmission system because it works at the approved frequency and power level for radio signals from computer peripherals. The only time we've experienced a problem is when a separate device (a projector) was not working at the approved frequency.
What is the range of your wireless communication technology?
The stated range is 50 feet, but our systems may actually work at slightly greater distances, depending on the characteristics of a facility. All our systems send the same signals, so it's important - if you have multiple systems in use in the same location - that you spread these systems out, keeping the receivers at least 100 feet away from each other (3 to 4 classrooms).
What kind of support plan do you offer?
We have software manuals and quick start guides available, along with several short training videos that will assist you in setting up your software. E-mail and phone support is also available.
Can I expect software updates in the future and will I have to purchase them?
We update both apps from time to time as we find and fix performance issues or improve the way a feature operates. However, you never pay for updates to QuizBowl PRO Desktop Match Manager for the current supported version because updates are free. We want you to have the most reliable version of the product you've purchased from us. QuizBowl PRO Online updates will automatically be integrated into the app when you sign on. We must occasionally do maintenance to the QuizBowl PRO Online server, but this usually takes a very short amount of time and will be done at times when our customers are less likely to use the service.
What if my competition format is different from others that are built into Slam-In?
No problem. QuizBowl PRO is endlessly customizable and lets you adjust all its features and save your unique settings into a file you can re-use. We're happy to help you customize QuizBowl PRO so that it matches your needs. And if your competition format becomes widely used, we'll consider adding it to the official competition formats built into the system. If you are doing the settings yourself, we recommend that you play-test the settings and adjust as needed in order to get the correct application of your format's rules.
Do I have to have a projector to use QuizBowl PRO?
No, you only need a projector (or a large computer monitor or a large screen TV) if you want the audience to see the action. We highly recommend using a projector so that everyone - especially the contestants - can see the score, the ring-in winner and the timers at all times. However, if you don't want to use one or if you simply don't have one in the room you're in, you're not required to have one. QuizBowl PRO identifies - both on-screen and audibly - who rang in first, so you be sure that the right person will always be called on. And you will always know the score, so you can announce it from time-to-time.
