When COVID hit, a lot of activities were cancelled due to the fear of spreading the virus. One of these activities included the fireworks on July 4th in my town. My sister had been upset by this as she loved fireworks. So I wanted to put my art skills to use and attempt to make her some fireworks. This is the first animation I have recollection of other than my younger days of attempting stop motion animation.
This animation was another final for my class. In order to do this as a music video I had to obtain permission from the music artist to use their song. This is one of my first real big animations, especially with all the different components I had to utilize to make it somewhat smooth. I do plan to redo this at some point and make it nicer, but for now I feel this is good representation of my beginner ability.
This piece was my final for a digital painting class. I wanted to do an animated digital painting regarding something very important to me. In this case, woman's lack of choice when it comes to their children, specifically when they are in the womb.
When creating this I wanted to make every detail init intentional. The man is in a judges stand above his partner and her hands dont reach above the top of it, showing how she is seen as lesser and not even close to the mans level.
Next I had her nude to show her loss of dignity, she doe not get control of her body and therefore must be fully available to the man. She is also depicted as pregnant to show that the child she is presenting is still a fetus, she is just presenting the future child.
The cracks are placed specifically to enhance the emotions felt by the viewer. Mary has a crack over her, showing how she is broken from the lack of choice. God has a crack in front of his face to imply his blindness to the situation. And the crack behind the child further pushes the thought that the woman has no control. she cannot reach her child and the crack is a barrier stopping her.
Finally I wanted to include two different paintings from the Renaissance to enhance the ideology that religion has a heavy influence on the choice of a child's future. Christianity is a well known religion, more than fifty percent of the American population identifies as Christian. I attended church with my great grandmother as well when I was a child so this was also a personal added choice. Mary is reaching out above the woman, she is taller than the judges stand. In this instance Mary is meant to help lift the woman up and help her gain more say in the matter, but just as it did for the mother, the crack separates her from the child, father, and God. God in this piece is reaching out, almost touching the child's forehead, a halo behind the child's head signifies how the church views babies as holy.
I left the decision out of the piece to give the viewer an opportunity to choose what the outcome was. While I do want most details in the art intentional and meant to be straightforward, I do not feel that I should impose on what information is taken from the piece. Making the decision known to the viewer would impede on their own ability to decide their opinion, which goes against the meaning of the piece entirely.
