Our first activity is to look at the Google Suite; an exploration of Google Mail, Google Calendar and Google Drive. (plus look at other Google apps and investigate what they do and how we can utilise them.)

1. What is the main focus for this application? i.e. send and receive email, receive calendar appointments…

2. How can this application be used to manage your personal information?
a. Categorise my

(including personal professional and commercial)

3. How can you use this application as an ‘Information Professional’?
a. Organising individual professional contacts and groups.

4. Does this application facilitate collaboration? i.e. more than one person to edit the content. I don’t know. I don’t think so, however there are aspects such as google docs that can facilitate collaboration. Group emails can get pretty fiddly and ugly, put gmail has set up a reasonably clear system to manage the hierarchy of who and when each reply was sent. Need to investigate more.
Google chat can facilitate up to 100 people in a group chat.
Google hangouts video calls with up to 9 people.
Are there any privacy concerns associated with this application?
Google collect data from your account.
They have a privacy policy where they outline what information and why, also how they use it. This is available online via your account and also to download as a pdf.
They have controls you can access under “My account” to manage your privacy and security

2. How can this application be used to manage your personal information?
a. Recording/organising of dates and events
b. Setting reminders
c. Emailing event invitation to groups or individuals to include in their own calendar
d. Option to share a calendar
e. Option to categorise multiple calendars
f. Include documentation within event such as location, attending guests(or acknowledgment of the date/event), and extra notes .
3. How can you use this application as an ‘Information Professional’?

e. Option to name and categorise multiple calendars
f. Include documentation within event such as location, attending guests(or acknowledgment of the date/event), and extra notes

a. You can add a friend’s calendar with their permission.
b. Set up a Google Calendar account with a friend/s. Or as a company set up a Google Calendar.
c. I believe there are permissions in particular with shared calendars.

Yes
(researching and taking notes below regarding articles written on the topic of privacy concerns in Google Calendars. Eg: When creating an event, including a gmail address in the title of your event will automatically send the event/or have it appear in said person's calendar even though you've not given any indication (in the usual options when creating an event) that you want them to see that event.) - need to research more

1. What is the main focus for this application?
a. To manage all/many types of online files within your Google account such as images and documents
2. How can this application be used to manage your personal information?
a. Files can be organised, renamed, shared, deleted, downloaded…
b. For example emailed files that may not have been downloaded to devices or computer can be stored and accessed via the cloud from anywhere via your account
c. Google apps can be used to collaborate and communicate to individuals and groups. Such as: Docs, slides, forms, sheets, maps.

They have a privacy policy.

Yes. In settings, private, only those you send a link, and public. Also Google collects certain data. This is outlined in their privacy policy.
