Queer Active is open to LGBTQ+ people and allies aged 18 and over. We welcome people of all backgrounds, abilities, identities, and experience levels.
Not at all. We organise a range of activities suitable for different abilities and fitness levels. Each event listing includes information about distance, terrain, and any accessibility considerations.
Membership is currently free and helps you stay connected with our community and receive updates about upcoming events.
Events can be booked through our Zeffy platform. Links are available on our website and social media channels.
Absolutely. Many of our members attend their first event on their own. Our events are designed to be friendly and welcoming, making it easy to meet new people.
While some events may be open to non-members, we encourage everyone to become a member. Membership helps us communicate with participants and demonstrate community engagement when applying for funding.
Requirements vary depending on the activity. Event descriptions will explain what you need, but we generally recommend appropriate clothing, footwear, water, and any personal medication you may require.
We aim to make our events as accessible as possible. Accessibility information is provided for each event, and we encourage anyone with specific requirements to contact us before attending.
Yes. Friends, partners, and allies are welcome at most events unless otherwise specified.
Safety always comes first. If severe weather makes an event unsafe, we may modify, postpone, or cancel the activity. Attendees will be informed as soon as possible.
We will contact attendees via Zeffy and post updates on our social media channels, particularly Instagram.
At present, most Queer Active events are intended for adults aged 18 and over.
Most events require very little equipment. Any specialist items needed will be clearly listed in the event description.
Yes! We're always looking for Event Leads, volunteers, and people who want to help behind the scenes. Volunteering is a great way to support the community and develop new skills.
Event Leads help plan and deliver activities, welcome participants, and ensure events run safely and inclusively. Full support and training are provided.
Queer Active is a volunteer-led community organisation. We rely on grants, donations, fundraising activities, and community support to help keep events accessible and affordable.
Most of our events are free, but occasionally activities may involve venue hire, equipment hire, or entry fees. We work hard to keep costs as low as possible and seek funding to reduce financial barriers.
Absolutely. Every donation helps us train volunteers, purchase equipment, improve accessibility, develop new activities, and support people who may otherwise struggle to attend events.
We love sharing photos and videos from our events to celebrate our community and help people discover Queer Active.
At the start of each event, we will always ask participants for their consent regarding photography and videography. If you do not wish to have your image shared on our website, social media, or promotional materials, simply let an Event Lead know.
While we make every effort to respect individual preferences, there may be occasions where participants appear incidentally in wider group photographs. If a group photograph contains someone who has requested not to be featured, we will not publish that image.
Our priority is ensuring everyone feels comfortable, respected, and able to participate safely.
