All Institute courses and workshops should fulfill the S&I objective by helping students learn the gospel and strengthen their faith in and conversion to Jesus Christ.
Course titles and descriptions can be customised to help students see how the course is relevant to their lives (Your coordinator can arrange this for you). Teachers should consult with their Institute coordinators to determine if the titles are relevant, accurate, and respectful.
Stake leaders should use the following chart as a guide to determine which courses to offer as part of their stake program.
These courses are required for graduation. Programs should ensure these are offered frequently enough to allow students to graduate in an appropriate time. Cornerstone courses focus on the Saviour, His doctrine, the eternal family, and significant events in Church history. They are centred in the scriptures and the teachings of latter-day prophets and will be taught using blocks of scripture, in context, from across the standard works.
These courses focus on other important Church principles, doctrines, and topics. They can be offered each year, in any term. Students require six additional credits from elective courses to graduate.
When a stake chooses to run the 90-minute (2 credit) option for either a 2 or 3 term program, they choose from the following courses for their term classes. When a stake chooses to run the 60-minute (1 credit) option for either a 3 or 4 term program, they divide the following courses across two terms and designate them as A and B – example 200A and 200B.
