Student Voice and Engagement (SVE) is an integrated and collaborative theater and social-emotional learning (SEL) program. It's constructed to sustain student engagement, as it enhances English Language Arts (ELA) and fosters student learning. Students served by the program benefit from the implementation of a comprehensive formula of SEL competencies guided by healing arts learning, culturally responsive teaching, professional development, and creation of materials to ensure that students can use theater to tell their own stories.
Our primary objectives with each unit and lesson we teach in the SVE Program are to: Introduce, Express, and Actualize.
By centering empowerment, agency, and respect, we aim to cultivate well-being and heightened social-emotional competence among participating students.
We intend to enhance and sustain student engagement and foster student learning across subject areas, particularly ELA, via the encouragement of creativity and expression.
