The research collaboration of faculty members and students goes beyond the classroom. Following a fieldwork study in Batad, Ifugao Rice Terraces on November 15-17, 2022, student proponents (Team Tanglaw) Christine Joy L. Isidro (BSTM 4-1N); Aaron Paul D. Fuellas (BSTM 4-3D), Jillian Cathreen B. Tiamzon (BSTM 3-2D), Kent Charles S. Monteza (BSTM 3-1D), Marianne Valerie J. Casala (BSTM 4-1D) made it as grand proposal winner in the recently concluded 1st Asian Cultural Heritage Conservation and Utilization Proposal Competition of UNESCO, held in Zhuhai, China, on April 22-28, 2023. PUP Team Tanglaw received the most outstanding proposal award leaving behind 576 teams from 17 Asian countries and territories. Faculty members Yolanda T. Montances, Regina B. Zuniga, and Luzviminda O. Tugade are their coaches and proposal editors, and the College Student Council President John Gil M. Concepcion (BSTM 4-1D) assisted.
The study highlighted the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental impact of climate change as the basis of the proposed interventions. In addition, as an offshoot of the study, the group is considering a community extension program to promote responsible tourism as a mitigating strategy for climate change in Batad.
The extension service function of university allows the institution and its faculty members to utilize their expertise with the residents, farmers, entrepreneurs, and local government authorities aside from its student clientele. Extension services have also been associated with knowledge transfer, technology transfer, community services, community outreach, or community engagement
