The Implementation of the Planning Process in the CTHTM, Department of Tourism and Transportation Management
In support of the University's Institutional Development Plan (IDP), the College convenes annual strategic planning sessions to prepare its programs and activities. The unit generates different and more beneficial outcomes from those processes by framing discussions as part of strategic planning efforts among the Dean, Program Chairs, faculty members, staff, and student leaders. The University's comprehensive planning procedure is established to ensure that directions and targets are set based on the Vision of the institution and that the programs formulated are aligned with the set principles of the University's 10 Pillar Agenda. Action plan as the result of the strategic planning follows to enable system documentation in the appraisal of accomplishments, manage the issues and circumstances of the initial operational plan, and determine the focus targets/objectives of the CTHTM to ensure the achievement of the University's Mission, the fulfillment of its Vision, and the achievement of its strategic goals.
Along the way, implementation and monitoring occur as the Dean and Program Chair call for scheduled and emergency meetings to discuss academic concerns like curriculum, faculty, research and extension, students, internships, graduations, accreditation, and other institutional activities. Faculty members are assigned committee assignments on top of their teaching, research, and extension tasks. The academic life at the College combines a myriad of education, research, community service, and operational deliverables. To observe the quality process, the College ensures compliance with the standard procedures set by the University in academic operations such as curriculum revision, syllabi preparation and enhancement, course offerings, classroom management, and internships.
The CTHTM Dean prepares Office Performance Commitment Review (OPCR) Form and Individual Performance Commitment Review form (IPCR). The OPCR together with the Office Final Output and Success Indicators (OFOS), and Individual Performance Commitment Review (IPCR) form must be aligned with the Must-Do Program of each of the delivery units and with the IDP. An OPCR quarterly monitoring and evaluation system supplies an organized and systematic procedure for monitoring and evaluating the different units in the University. Monitoring and assessing OPCR prevents unacceptable occurrences and permits addressing constraints and challenges the University might encounter. The consolidated report provides an organized and systematic approach to data utilization in the Planning Office.
The Dean prepares the College Development Plan, which guides the implementation of the proposed strategic actions in the following dimensions: students, curriculum and instruction, faculty, research and production, extension and community services, linkages, physical plant, facilities, and income-generating projects (IGP). The institutional processes are implemented under the leadership of the Dean, supported by the Program Heads, QAC and OJT coordinator, Faculty researchers, and the entire academic workforce and administrative staff. Action plans to enhance the faculty profile include partnerships, attending and organizing conferences, training, committee tasking, classroom performance evaluation, rewards and incentives, and promotion. Students, as the prime clientele of the institutions, shall be afforded relevant training and internship activities, appropriate involvement in research and extension programs, more scholarship opportunities, and other student services. In line with curriculum development, the unit consistently complies with the latest CMO standards and institutional accreditation requirements, benchmarks with COE and COD institutions, infuses industry and global trends throughout the curriculum, obtains industry linkages and feedback, and pursues hybrid teaching and learning. Extension and community strategies like partnership, faculty and student immersion, and community participation are highly significant. The physical facilities will be maximized through proper scheduling and maintenance, though donations from alumni and other sponsoring bodies may be explored. Opportunities to utilize the expertise of the College through food catering, coffee shop operation, event management, and travel agency operations are identified as IGPs to support faculty and student development, research, and extension programs. Ultimately, the College demonstrates its role as a critical player in attaining the vision of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines as a national polytechnic.

The Department considers the distribution of the Tourism and Transportation Management Journal an integral part of the research process, passing on the benefits to other researchers, professional practitioners, and other academic institutions, resulting in the utilization of its findings. The journal, now in its 7th volume, is a repository for student and faculty research findings.
The Process Flow of Syllabus Preparation
Use of Syllabus and Process of Preparation and Monitoring
A good start of the semester is by properly appreciating the role that syllabi serve in higher education. The syllabus should be an instrument for students and faculty to guide them the entire semester. Course syllabi are the faculty members' responsibility upon the Program Head and the College Dean's supervision. To ensure that each syllabus achieves its intended purposes and takes its place as part of a thoroughly integrated curriculum, the College maintains and implements a prescribed format issued by the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs. Revisions follow upon approval of the new curriculum and a memorandum for syllabi revision from OVPAA. Other conditions leading to the syllabus's modification are incorporating a new template, adding contemporary topics in the course outline, updating references, and other relevant changes. Faculty members prepare course syllabi within the prescribed time and according to their assigned subject preparations. Designated faculty members, whether individual or group, work on the revision and submit them as part of their performance requirement/s. The 2018 Approved Course Syllabi was anchored from the outcomes-based format of CMO #62 s.2017 section 15. Syllabi revision is performed each semester to cope up with the demands of the current time. The OBE-compliant course syllabi follow the CHED format that includes the following components the general course information (title, description, credit units, prerequisite requirements); the course outcomes and their congruence to program outcomes; the course coverage that relates the course outcomes to topics covered, teaching and learning activities and assessment methods; and the learning resources, classroom policies, grading system, etc.
Faculty members include an outline of the course contents in the syllabus at the start of the semester. In the process, it serves as a reference for both the faculty and students on the progress of topics covered in the subject. It gives students a comprehensive overview of the course's aims, objectives, learning outcomes, and assessment strategies. Offers students a clear understanding of their expectations and a road map for how the subject will be conducted.
