The Department of Tourism and Transportation Management (DTTM) on behalf of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and the Korea Cultural Exchange Association (KCEA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on November 28, 2022 in the KCEA Headquarters, Incheon, Republic of Korea. KCEA is an international exchange organization accredited by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
It is Korea's leading international exchange organization by carrying out various exchange projects with foreign countries, such as sisterhood ties between schools, cultural exchange performances and exhibitions, international exchange festival planning, and MICE corporate exchange.
The Tourism and Transportation Management Department (TTMD) under the College of Tourism, Hospitality and Transportation Management (CTHTM) faculty members, along with the chairperson and the director of the Office for Teaching and Learning Development, conducted a benchmarking activity and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kyung-In Women's University (KIWU) and Korea Culture and Exchange Association (KCEA) in Korea. The MOU aims to promote educational and cultural exchanges, research collaboration, and joint events between institutions. The participants of the benchmarking activity and MOU signing were faculty members from the Tourism and Transportation Management Department (TTMD) under the College of Tourism, Hospitality and Transportation Management (CTHTM).
The participants included Assoc. Prof. Regina B. Zuniga, Joseph Bryan Oriondo, Ma. Gay M. Teopengco, Assoc. Prof. Yolanda T. Montances (chairperson of TTMD), and Dr. Ma. Junithesmer Rosales (director of the Office for Teaching and Learning Development). During the visit, the participants observed best practices at KIWU, such as specialized programs, small class sizes, and well-equipped simulation rooms sponsored by industry partners. They also explored Korean cultural attractions and experienced traditional activities and cuisine. The re-entry action plans include presenting the benchmarking results to CTHTM faculty, implementing the MOU, and seeking industry assistance for sponsoring simulation rooms for skillsrelated courses. The participants' experience during the benchmarking activity and MOU signing enriched their understanding of Korean culture. This knowledge can be shared with their students to enhance the curriculum and provide a broader perspective. Additionally, the insights gained can be applied to conducting tourism development research, which will contribute to the development of plans for Philippine tourism destinations.
