The Department of Humanities and Philosophy has played a very active role in the university’s new VGMO, taking the call for research and scholarship deep into the department’s heart and mind, the faculty exhibited as high degree of motivation going forward. In recent years, the department faculty members have been actively performing on the fronts of research, disciplinal integrity as evidenced by the number of indexed publications and international conferences attended by faculty members in the recent years and the number of faculty members enrolled in graduate courses (Master’s and Doctorate level) in Philosophy and other allied disciplines. Other fronts such as fiscal responsibility, social engagement, assessment of institutional processes, extension services, transparency in the academic processes etc. have also been strong suits for the department
The recent history of the Department of Humanities and Philosophy, as a microcosm of the whole, parallel the recent development and transformation of the university. Being certified recently by the ISO, PUP is hailed as one of the few tertiary educations that exhibits a certain level of standards that can be compared to international institutions. Moving forward, therefore, means for the university and consequently, the Department not so much as achieving more stratospheric goals, but maintaining the level of excellence in many fronts appears to be heroic at first look but for the people who helped in the endeavor of making PUP and the Department attuned with the currents of the world, it is all just a matter of collective effort. Collective work is something that the PUP Community. Including the members of the Department of Humanities and Philosophy, are very familiar with.
