We are dedicated to serving the community and protecting the environment in a sustainable manner. We are not just tour guides, rather also community memebers. We believe that ecotourism should support the local community, so all proceeds from our tours and cafe help run our projects shown below.

English Classes

Our tour guides and volunteers teach English at Centro PUMA and in outreach classes in the underserved community of Las Pilas. If you want to help with english classes, you can help adults with conversation at English Cafe, Saturdays at 3pm, or talk to us about helping with our kids' programs.

Reforestation

Every year during the rainy season (May-October), we start a native tree nursery to reforest areas in need around Ometepe. With the help of local kids, tour guides, and conservation groups, we plant about 2000 trees every year.

Junior Rangers

Our environmental education with youth opens a world of wonder, introducing them to natural sciences, nature excursions, and potentially finding new recruits to lead the conservation and ecotourism industries in the future.

Community events

Our conference room and classroom can be rented for any occasion, but we donate its use to any nonprofit or community-serving activities. It has served local conservation groups, public meetings about Ometepe, community physical and mental health conferences, free psychologist services, and free community classes such as suicide prevention, sign language, and first aid.

Come to Centro PUMA to see if there are volunteer opportunities, or just to enjoy knowing that you are supporting these projects with your patronage.

All of our community service projects are supported by tax-deductible donations to Guias Unidos, a project of Earth Island Institute. Even small donations go a long way to help keeping our center open and staffed to serve the community.
