We are pleased to share free PDF copies of our Khmer language comic book មនុស្សដើមនៅភូមិយើង បុរាណវិទ្យានៅប្រាសាទបាសែត (The Ancient People of Our Village: Archaeology at Prasat Baset).
This comic was produced by artist Mr. Y Lida, who also illustrated the comic book, Wrath of the Phantom Army , for Heritage Watch International. The story was written by Y Lida, with contributions from Alison Carter, Miriam Stark, Muong Chanraksmey, and So Malay.
This comic book is part of the outreach activities for our project. We wanted to create a comic that explained more about how archaeological research is done as well as sharing some results from our archaeological research at Baset.
We were able to give out copies of this comic at our "Dissemination of Archaeological Research Results" event in July 2024, which was attended by His Excellency Prak Sonnara from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
We hope that this comic will be read and enjoyed by the people of Baset Village and beyond. We are also grateful for the support and collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and Department of Culture and Fine Arts Battambang for this project.

The comic tells the story of a little girl whose father works with the archaeological project. Many of the people in the comic are based on real Baset villagers and project members.
The girl meets an archaeologist with the project who explains to her more about how archaeological research is done and what they have learned.
That night, she dreams that she has been transported to the Angkor period. When she wakes up, she is eager to tell her family and friends what she has learned. She also shares with them the value of protecting their archaeological and cultural heritage.
