PREPARE & SETUP AN SD
PREPARE & SETUP AN SD
BUYING TIPS
If you dont yet have an SD card or the adaptor then you can get an SD2Vita adaptor cheaply from several places such as eBay, but 'always' buy your SD card from a trusted store.
I personally always recommend a 256gb as its good value and plenty of space

SD CARDS
When purchasing an SD card, make sure you are always buying from a trusted store and dont be tempted with ebay, facebook etc.. and their low prices as these are very often fakes. If your buying from Amazon, make sure it says 'Sold by' and 'Dispatched by' Amazon
A question often asked is 'What size SD should i get?' The reason that i always recommend a 256gb card is because they are not much different in price than the 128gb cards, so its better value, But also a 256gb is often plenty of space for the majority of people. You could be tempted with a 512gb and thats fine if you know your going to horde lots of games but honestly, 256gb is often more than enough.
The Vita doesnt have a storage capacity limit, but the software does have limitations, so if your thinking of using a larger SD (over 512gb) then ask for advice on the Facebook group first
THE ADAPTOR
You may see online several versions of the SD2Vita adaptor but dont worry too much as they are all basically the same, just in different design styles and are all made cheaply and low quality so i always recommend buying 2 (usualy off ebay as cheap as possible) just in case one breaks.
There is also an adaptor known as a PSVSD, these are quite rare, often expensive and only fit internally for the 3G version of the 1000 (phat) as it replaces the 3G modem
Once you have installed the recommended apps listed in step 3 we can now look at preparing an SD card, copying the current setup to it and make it our default storage.
open VitaDeploy and select 'Miscellaneous'
select 'Format a storage device'
this should already be set to SD2Vita and TexFAT,
only change the target if your using a PSVSD (internal adaptor)
If iyou havent already, insert your SD card into the SD2Vita and into the Vita itself. wait a few seconds after inserting the SD
select 'Format target storage'. After a few seconds you should see a message saying that the Format was sucessfull
If you see format failed then try again, if you still see format failed then reboot and try again. If you still get a failed message then try formatting the SD on another device first and take a look at the pins inside the SD2Vita adaptor just in case they are damaged. If your still having issues then maybe you have a fake or faulty SD or damaged adaptor, try another SD card to see if you have the same issues.

Once you have a sucessfully formatted SD, reboot your device otherwise the app we are going to use next may crash due to a compatability issue with VitaDeploy.
Open the UX0 to SD Clone Tool and follow the on screen prompts which If your using an SD2Vita, will mainly consist of just be pressing CROSS at several points with each prompt and then allowing the app to reboot your system and start its process
After rebooting, the app should open itself again to continue its process, it will delete any existing content on the SD and then clone your UX0 storage onto it automatically.
After the clone tool finishes copying the data to the SD and reboots again you should now be running from the SD and your previous srorage is hidden away. You can verify this by going to System information and you should now see that the capacity has changed to the SD size.
THATS IT, YOUR DONE !
What I tell people is that we can treat this as your restore point,
So if there are any issues with your SD in the future, or if you just wanted a fresh start, you can run the clone tool again to remove the SD setup and the system will boot with the origional storage, which only has 'these' few apps that you started with before the clone.
You would then follow this page again to format a new SD card (or the current) using VitaDeploy and repeat the clone process shown on this page to re-clone the system setup. leaving you back to this point on the SD
