Below is a glossary of key terms used throughout the PSN program.

Individuals help facilitate engagements with community groups and strengthen relationships between local law enforcement and the community.

Small group of DOJ attorneys. Serve as POCs for the 94 USAOs. Support PSN implementation and information-sharing between headquarters and the field.

A process that combines established and well-researched interventions with experience, ethics, and culture to guide and inform decision-making.

Chief executives meet on a regular basis to share progress updates, assess strengths and gaps, allocate resources, and make strategic decisions.

Leaders from local partner agencies (e.g., law enforcement, prosecutors, probation/parole, corrections) and federal partners (e.g., ATF, DEA, FBI, USMS).

Formally accepts the award, disperses funds, maintains an accounting system, answers fiscal questions from partners, and ensures required reporting to BJA.

Template for periodic assessment of progress toward program goals. Can help districts identify areas that need adjustment and refine existing strategies.

Connects local law enforcement and USAO. Works with PSN Coordinator to identify possible cases for federal prosecution.

MSU’s School of Criminal Justice has nearly two decades of experience with PSN. Provides TTA related to strategic problem solving and site coordination.

Experienced in development of victims’ services on a national scale. Provides specialized TTA expertise around victims’ issues and services.

Project manager. Leads day-to-day activities. Works with LEC to manage multiagency partnerships. Typically an AUSA.

PSN’s Four Design Elements are the necessary components for developing successful violent crime reduction initiatives.

Assists with the effective request and TTA delivery. Each regional team consists of a TTA Liaison, TTA Analyst, and Victim Services Liaison.

Analyzes local crime, suggests potential strategies, assists with performance metrics, provides assessments and feedback, and conducts an evaluation.

Useful tool for planning, development, and implementation of violent crime reduction strategies using PSN’s Four Design Elements.

Section of the PSN District identified to receive PSN violence reduction strategy implementation due to high rates of violent crime in the area.

Supports the TTA team with knowledge of available resources, identifying and coordinating TTA, and facilitating collaboration and communication.

Provides on-call TTA support to their assigned PSN TTA region. Coordinates with TTA Analyst to provide training or technical assistance.

Provides support to the PSN TTA regions by serving as the ongoing point of contact for questions and TTA requests regarding victim services.

Experts on fostering cooperative, trust-building relationships with victims and understanding effects of victimization/trauma for all types of violent crime.

Specialized teams that engage in specific activities as part of the Working Group. These are the people active in the specific interventions to reduce violent crime. Includes key leaders from partnering organizations who provide valuable information to a strategy team.
