The USAO Team provides critical convening power for reducing violent crime in partnership with affected communities. They gather leaders from other partner agencies (e.g., state prosecutor’s office, probation and parole, local and state police, and corrections), as well as key federal partners (ATF, DEA, FBI, USMS), to develop a common understanding and unified approach to violence reduction efforts under PSN.
The USAO Team plays an important role in guiding and monitoring the progress and impact of the PSN initiative and how the PSN team is collaborating to achieve its strategic plan.
Assessment questions may include:
Have you identified key local law enforcement and prosecution partners? Are team roles defined?
Is your district strategy clearly articulated and understood by all USAO team members and outside partners?
Are you seeking and obtaining regular feedback from partners?
Sound leadership is critical to a successful PSN strategy.
Consider the following:
Choosing the right PSN coordinator who can work well with all partners and lead the USAO efforts.
Ensuring efforts are data driven.
Being responsive to partner feedback.
Maximizing the use of LECs and other USAO staff to fully implement PSN.
The PSN strategy must be woven throughout the district’s approach to violent crime reduction.
Ensure all parties are aware of their roles, not just in the PSN activities, but in administration of the grant as well.
With PSN as part of the institution, common challenges, such as staffing changes, data collection, and finding a balance between implementing the strategy and meeting administrative requirements won’t threaten the success of the initiative.
