Participants are advised to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements

General Information

The conference venue and the satellite events will take place in the city center of Lisbon which is about 6 km from the airport and easily reached by subway, bus or taxi. Public transportation is very affordable, and we recommend the subway for travelling within the city.

Lisbon airport has 2 terminals with bus services between them that take around 5 minutes. Terminal 1 houses the regular companies and terminal 2 the low-cost ones. From the airport, a taxi ride to the city center will cost around 15 euro, an Uber around 7 euro. The ride will take about 10 minutes. You can also opt for the Aerobus which is a bus service that runs 2 separate lines every 20-25 minutes between the airport terminals and the city center. Two-way tickets cost around 6 euro, the trip takes at most 25 minutes, and the service provides an app that locates most hotels around the various bus stops. And the airport also connects to the city by subway, where it is the terminal stop on the red line.

Choose neighborhoods within the city center when you book your hotel or hostel. Praça de Espanha, Saldanha and Campo Pequeno are at walking distance from the main conference venue (5-10 minutes). Other locations close-by but for which you will be required to use public transportation include Marquis de Pombal, Rossio, Bairro Alto and Sete Rios/Jardim Zoologico (the Zoo).

Avoid locations such as the Oceanarium, the Atlantic Pavilion, the Park of Nations (Parque das Nações), and Belem because they require around 30 minutes of commuting to reach the venues. And note that Cascais, Costa da Caparica, Ericeira, Estoril, Sesimbra and Sintra, that are often listed on travel websites as places nearby Lisbon, require 1 to 2 hours of travel. We recommend these beautiful sites for a possible excursion or day trip.

Participants travelling with children can make use of babysitting services such as Babysits, Yoopies, or My Babysitter. Note that Babysits enables filtering for languages spoken by the babysitter in the left column.

We recommend Lisbon's official website for Tourism as well as Time Out Lisbon for getting to know the city and its many sites and restaurants. People with specific dietary requirements can additionally have a look at the websites added below.
