Guidance for Cooperating Teachers


This section reviews how to prepare for:

  • your first meeting with your teacher candidate

  • ideas to help prepare for the arrival of your your teacher candidate

  • and teacher candidate's first day in your classroom


Defining expectations and developing habits from the start can greatly improve the likelihood of a successful experience for you both. This section includes tips for daily & weekly communication and tips to offer feedback.

Guidance in evaluating instruction both formally and informally, including tips on:

  • how to efficiently collect data

  • completing the CPAST form

  • participating in the Evaluation Conferences with your teacher candidate and the university supervisor

These components are designed to support our invaluable Cooperating Teachers in their work with our Teacher Candidates.

The self-guided sections are set up to address topics of interest as the school year progresses and contains many of the items mentioned or referenced at the Student Teacher Orientation (held in August for fall student teachers and November for spring student teachers).
