The M.Ed. degree is designed to prepare exceptional student education (ESE) teachers to serve PreK–12 students with disabilities. This program is intended for educators who already hold professional certification in ESE or another area of special education and seek to deepen their knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions.
Coursework integrates Individual Learning Projects that focus on research skills and action research, culminating in a comprehensive exam that synthesizes current research and demonstrates mastery of relevant standards set by accrediting educational agencies. The inclusion of the Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) requires modifications to the standard M.Ed. program of study.
Note: Teacher preparation programs are subject to any change in the Florida Administrative Code (State Board of Education Rule 6A-5.066). Students enrolled in these programs should maintain close contact with their advisor to stay informed about any program changes implemented to comply with new state requirements. Substitutions/waivers may be granted if comparable course(s) (grad or undergrad) were completed, subject to approval.
