In one notable study, the impact of PLTL was differentiated by a measure of prior ability. The method suggested by Zar (Biostatistical Analysis) was applied to compare linear regressions of simulated PLTL data. The impact of PLTL for the GPA = 2 was nearly twice that at GPA = 4.0. Statistics methods that assume parallel lines such as multi-linear regression overestimate the impact on high GPA students and underestimate the impact on low GPA students.
