FIRST-YEAR SPANISH: A180, A180H, A185, A185H

Doesn't it drive you crazy when you have to purchase course materials that almost never get used in class like the poor students in this vine? I'm happy to let you know that you can expect to use the textbook and accompanying components in the companion site extensively in my classes. 😊

Below are the required course materials for all SPAN A180, A180H, A185 and A185H sections:

• (textbook) Tu mundo, by Andrade et al, 3rd ed.

• (companion site) Tu mundo Connect Plus (includes an online version of the workbook/lab manual, an e-version of the textbook, and additional resources to help you succeed in the class)

On the first day of class, everyone will sign up for a FREE two-week courtesy access to the Connect textbook companion site. During the second week of the semester, all students planning to continue in the class will need to purchase continued access to the Connect site. There are two options for purchase (see below).

IMPORTANTE - In order to ensure that you end up with the right materials for the class, only purchase them either from the OCC Bookstore (OPTION 1) or directly from the publisher (OPTION 2). 

OPTION 1 (BETTER DEAL):  Custom bundle (loose-leaf version of Tu mundo textbook + 2-years access to the Connect site) from the OCC Bookstore (ISBN13 9781264792672 - $134.29 + tax)*

This is the best option for you if:

• you prefer to have a printed copy of the textbook; and/or

• you plan to take two semesters of Spanish (I hope you do!)

  • • Spanish A180/A180H = up through Chapter 6

    • Spanish A185/A185H = up through Chapter 12

¡MUY IMPORTANTE! 

• On the first day of class, everyone will sign up for a free two-week courtesy access to the Connect site. 

• If you plan to choose Option 1 and have the custom bundle shipped to you (rather than picking it up on campus), you'll want to order it ASAP so that you receive it before the two-week courtesy period expires.

• If you purchase this bundle, do NOT throw away the cardboard insert that comes packaged with the loose-leaf textbook; it looks something like this and contains a code that provides 2-years access to the Connect site (if you purchase directly from the publisher, the same 2-year access costs $170.10 but doesn't include the loose-leaf copy of the textbook).

  • • Do not use the code until after the first class meeting for two reasons:

      • • The Connect site is like a house with many rooms and there's one particular room that I've prepared for your class. I've put specific assignments from the online workbook/lab manual, the complete e-textbook, and other helpful resources in that room. You'll need two things to enter the room: its address (to find it) and a key (to open its door). The code that's on the cardboard insert is the key to the room. On the first day of class, I'll give you the room's address in the form of a URL (https://www.etc...).

        • Note that, once used, the code is non-refundable and non-transferable. I recommend that everyone hold off on using the code during the first week of class when you have access to Connect via the Courtesy Access. Once you're sure that this course is for you (and before the two week courtesy access ends), you can use the code to continue your access to Connect.

OPTION 2 (LESS EXPENSIVE): 180-day access to the Tu mundo, 3rd edition Connect online companion site (contains e-version of textbook); purchase directly from publisher (ISBN10 [number to be added] - $85.00 (+ taxes/fees --> $90.61)*

This might be the best option for you if:

• you don't feel the need to have a printed copy of the textbook (an e-version is included in Connect*) or you already have a printed copy; and

• you're pretty sure that you'll only be taking one semester of Spanish; and/or

• you're fairly confident that you'll pass the course on your first go.

• If you want to use this option, you need to wait until at least after the first class meeting to purchase the code for the Connect site. So, you won't need a key for the first two weeks, but after that you will need to purchase one.  The $85.00 price for 180 days of access is a special price that is only available when you purchase from within the room, so you need to have already signed up for the two-week courtesy access before you use this option.

• If you select this option, be sure to follow the instructions for purchasing the continued access that appear on this page. If you don't, you might purchase a configuration that doesn't work with this class.

• Do NOT purchase the 2-year access from within Connect. It costs $170.10 while the same 2-year access plus a loose-leaf copy of the textbook is $134.29 + tax at the OCC Bookstore.
