Quantum computing is an incredibly hard problem. More so given the fact that physical qubits tend to be unstable, making long lasting quantum computations involving many qubits infeasible. We therefore turn to quantum error correction which can overcome the flaws of individual qubits at the expense of requiring vastly more qubits and fast classical computations.
In our group we focus on the required fast classical computations using FPGA. We concentrate our effort on the surface code and work from the algorithm design all the way to hardware based implementations.
