チームプリンシパル / Team Principal
Kentaro Sano is the principal of the processor research team, and the leaders of the advanced AI device development unit and the next-generation high-performance computing infrastructure system development unit at RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS), responsible for research and development of future processors and systems for HPC and AI. He is also a visiting professor with an advanced computing system laboratory at Tohoku University. He received his Ph.D. from the graduate school of information sciences, Tohoku University, in 2000. Since 2000 until 2018, he was a Research Associate and an Associate Professor at Tohoku University. He was a visiting researcher at the Department of Computing, Imperial College, London, and Maxeler Technology corporation in 2006 and 2007. His research interests include data-driven and spatial-parallel processor architectures such as a coarse-grain reconfigurable array (CGRA) for HPC and AI, FPGA-based high-performance reconfigurable computing, quantum error correction hardware for fault-tolerant quantum computers, and system architectures for next-generation supercomputers including FugakuNEXT.

Tomohiro Ueno is currently a Research Scientist in the Processor Research Team at the RIKEN Center for Computational Science. He obtained his Ph.D. in Information Science from the Graduate School of Information Sciences at Tohoku University in 2016. Since 2017, he has worked at RIKEN and, since 2025, has served as a visiting associate professor at Kobe University. Since 2023, he has led research on adaptive data compression hardware as part of the JST ASPIRE project. His research areas include computer architecture, networks, data compression, CGRA, and quantum error correction.

Boma Anantasatya Adhi is a research scientist at RIKEN, where he tinkers with CGRA architectures, AI/HPC accelerators, SoC design, CPUs, and the magical world of parallelizing compilers and circuit design automation. Originally from Indonesia, he somehow ended up with a Dr. Eng. from Waseda University and now spends his days making hardware smarter and software happier.

Werner Florian Samayoa is a trained electric engineer from the national university of Guatemala. He moved to Trieste, Italy where he worked at the Abdus Salam Centre for Theoretical Physics and obtained his Ph.D. in Information technology from the University of Trieste. His works span from data analytics for feature extraction systems deployed at CERN to building a custom SoC-FPGA cluster with open hardware and software. Currently, he is working at RIKEN-CCS as a postdoctoral Researcher working on implementing and optimizing quantum error correction decoders on FPGAs.
