Kanoria Foundation
Many girls from poor families in India are married off by their parents even when they are still minor and have not reached the marriageable age. Often these helpless girls fall prey to human traffickers who sell them for money after marrying them. Young girls cannot come out of this abusive situation due to the lack of money and resources. Many girls are also trapped by people by befriending them on the social media.
Hemant Kanoria has taken the initiative of saving these numerous victims of child marriages and human trafficking, by establishing the Swayangsiddha Scheme for them. This scheme is jointly supported by SREI and Kanoria Foundation, to provide resources to the victims of trafficking and save them from further exploitation in life. The rescue operations of girls from traffickers are not easy, as these poor girls are traumatized and even blackmailed by their abusers. Therefore, this scheme is to provide them overall support so that these girls can return to normal life in the society while maintaining their dignity.
Rehabilitation program of SREI Foundation for rescued victims
It was the dream of Hemant Kanoria to work for poor women and provide them support for living a decent life. Hence, SREI Foundation established by him now works in coordination with North 24 Parganas Police Department to get in touch with girls rescued from human traffickers. It has tied up with an NGO and Goranbose Gram Bikas Kendra and already offered rehabilitation to 22 girls who were victims of human trafficking. They were offered financial help and even professional training to start their own businesses.
Some girls started grocery stores while some of them are selling readymade garments to be financially independent. Few girls received training to run beauty parlors while some got funds to buy cycle vans. They have vowed to stop the malpractice of child marriage in our society, after they are freed from an abusive life. Many women are now coming forward to support other underprivileged women, encouraged by the practices of this charitable foundation. Therefore, lots of women are expected to be benefitted in the near future while their next generation will also be protected from misery.
