DOC probation/parole determined or listed on the State Sex Offender Registry
Some in re-entry will have to find housing that meets DOC or Community residency requirements. Individuals in this category will need to coordinate with the appropriate agency.
An inmate with no living restrictions might have family or friends he/she can live with (that will support positive decision making)
If inmate has family/friends to live with temporarily, there are various rental assistance programs available to aid in living independently when the family or friend arrangement is no longer possible (i.e. Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul Society). Also, the inmate may be interested in the “group house” settings available (i.e. Philip’s Mission, Transformation House)
Availability of Houses/Apartments
If inmate has an apartment/house they can return to but are still in need of assistance then refer inmate to the various rental assistance programs available (i.e. Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul Society).
No housing resources
If inmate has no housing options available then recommend the various emergency housing shelters available depending on immediate needs (i.e. domestic violence, homeless family, single adult, etc.). From there the inmate can be connected with resources to assist in independent living.
Note: Those on the State Sex Offender Registry are not eligible for temporary housing at most area shelters.
