Michelle Jane Corotan

Michelle Jane Corotan, currently serving as a research fellow at L’Orientale University of Naples, earned her MSc in Biology, with specialization in Biodiversity and Environmental Health, from the Università degli Studi di Siena in 2022.

Before pursuing her graduate studies, she held the position of research coordinator at King Fahad Medical City Riyadh, KSA, where she contributed to various published medical studies between 2013 and 2019.

Michelle’s keen interest in biodiversity and biomedicine shaped her graduate thesis, which explored the intersection of medicine and nature. In October 2023, she transitioned her focus from life sciences to social sciences by collaborating on a heritage project and was involved in the transcription and translation of Tagalog data from first- and second-generation Filipinos in Italy, highlighting language changes.

Currently, Michelle remains actively involved in heritage language research among migrant Filipinos in Campania. Her role has expanded to encompass participant interviews, data gathering, analysis and archiving, furthering our understanding of linguistic and cultural dynamics within migrant communities.
