Fair Sharing of a Treasure, Thursday July 10th, 6:00-7:00 PM, Pacific time
A group of pirates wants to divide a treasure so that each pirate feels they’ve received their fair share.
This turns out to be quite tricky, because the value of each item is subjective—a ring or a pistol might be worth more to one pirate than to another. For example, if one pirate is asked to split the loot into equal shares, others may disagree, believing that some shares are better than others.
In this lecture, we’ll explore algorithms designed to divide treasure fairly, even when opinions about value differ.
Age range: we invite students grades 5-8 as of Fall 2025.
These sessions are offered on a “pay what you can” basis. Join the lecture for free—or support Prime Factor with a donation of your choice.
