Prabhat Upadhyay, PhD, is an Assistant Professor (Pharmacology and Toxicology) at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Ahmedabad, an autonomous institute under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India (since December 2025).
Prior to joining NIPER Ahmedabad, he was a Research Fellow at the Wu Lab, Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Department of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, and previously a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Edlow Lab, Vincent Center for Reproductive Biology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard Medical School. He also served as a Young Scientist at the National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi, where his research was supported by funding from the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Dr. Upadhyay earned his PhD in Pharmacology (2018) from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India. Following his doctoral training, he worked as a Scientist-cum-Manager at Zeon Lifesciences Ltd., where he led the successful submission of a phytopharmaceutical dossier (NeuroBDH) to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). He also served as a co-inventor of the UJC product, which has been commercialized in India under the FSSAI category, highlighting his strong engagement in translational and industry-driven research.
Dr. Upadhyay has authored over 24 research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals, contributed six book chapters, and holds one granted U.S. patent. His research interests span pharmacology, toxicology, gut microbiota, neuroimmune interactions, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases, and translational phytopharmaceutical development.
