Memories

All the postdoctoral cryo-EM work of PPD was done using this FEI PHILIPS F20 TECNAI cryo Electron Microscope located at the Wordsworth Center, NY State Dept. of Health, Albany, NY, USA, during 2001-2009. Long hours, days, and nights were spent by PPD collecting cryo-EM micrographs manually on this wonderful instrument. This instrument gave rise to all the cryo-EM papers, the Robert J. Colinas Award for Outstanding Postdoctoral Research, and eventually the current faculty position at IISER Kolkata for PPD. Had the honour of meeting  Prof. Richard Henderson (Nobel Prize in 2017 for cryo-EM) at the landmark international conference "Frontiers of Structural Biology, hosted by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in New Delhi in December 2014. INSA hosted this massive conference to commemorate the International Year of Crystallography (IYCr2014). It served as a platform to spread cryo-EM across India. PPD had the honour of delivering an invited talk at this prestigious conference.

Probably the first single-particle cryo-EM workshop (image processing) in India was held as part of the EMSI-2016 international conference at IIT BHU. Prof. Partha Pratim Datta of IISER Kolkata and Prof. Manidipa Banerjee of IIT Delhi conducted this workshop. Prof. Krishanu Ray (TIFR), who organized the workshop, is seen here felicitating PPD at the workshop venue.
