Russell Group Schools are often considered to be some of the best universities in the UK. There are 24 schools in this group including: Oxford, Cambridge, University College London, Kings College, Durham University, University of Exeter and many more.
These schools will have a wide range of offers depending on the course, but you would usually expect a minimum entry requirement of around 36 points with at least 6,6,6 in the Higher Level subjects. For these institutions, it is important to ensure that the HL subjects are both a strength for the student and linked to what they want to do in the future. Tactical subject choices for these schools will often present problems when it comes to application and offers. BTEC/IBCP students could be considered with the BTEC Extended Diploma with overall grade DDM and 2 HLs with grades of 6, 7. One of the HLs must be in humanities or social sciences.
The American application system is concerned with your overall academic performance as well as the rigor of your courses. U.S. schools will ask us to send them a transcript showing your trimester grades since Year 10, they are looking for consistency and steady improvement. U.S schools will also expect a very well considered letter or essay of application that describes your personality and achievements outside of the classroom as well as within. The BTEC/IBCP is recognized as a valid qualification by many universities in the USA.
Universities are becoming more and more strict about students who are mother-tongue level taking 'Language B' in order to bank points. Universities will know your nationality from your passport and where you have grown up.
We highly recommend that you ensure your Language choices are the right level of challenge for you, or you might find yourself missing out on offers because the university considers your Language choices too easy - this has happened before!!!
