Note: The back up image is a preventive measure in case the XCSoar installation fails. It is not a mandatory step, but very recommendable to do so.
1. Download Win32DiskImager from https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
2. Install Win32DiskImager
3. Open the back case of the Kobo eReader
4. Extract the memory card
5. Insert the memory card in a memory card reader and connect it to the PC
6. Cancel any dialog that appears asking for formatting:
7. Launch Win32DiskImager as administrator (Right click and select 'Run as administrator')
8. Step 1: Select the device where the image you want to back up is located (source). Step 2: A) Select the location where you want to save the image (destination), B) name the back up file and C) Click on 'Open' button:
9. Click on 'Read' button. The backup process will start:
10. When the image back up is finished, safely remove the card reader from the PC and insert the memory card back to the Kobo eReader.
1. Download the last version of XCSoar for Kobo. Currently is http://download.xcsoar.org/releases/6.8.7/KOBO/
2. Switch on the Kobo eReader
3. Connect the Kobo eReader to the PC via USB
4. A dialog will appear in the Kobo eReader. Tap on 'Connect'
5. Open the file explorer in your PC and copy the downloaded KoboRoot.tgz file into the Kobo device root directory.
6. When the file is copied, safely remove the Kobo eReader from the PC. Then disconnect the USB cable. After 20 seconds, the Kobo eReader will reboot and will start to install XCSoar.
From now on, everytime you switch on the Kobo eReader, XCSoar application will be loaded. If you want to use the native Kobo eBook software, tap on 'Nickel' when in XCSoar main screen.
It's important to follow these instructions when transferring files from your PC to your Kobo device:
