To complete this piece, I attempted to take inspiration from my parent’s home. Their house is far away from anyone else on top of a pretty steep hill. When I think of my memories within their house, I think of warmth and familial love. Therefore, I chose to use red and yellow as the main colours, as the warm colours would go with the imagery of a house with smoke as well as the fond memories that I wished to convey in my work. I chose to make the mountains rocky and rigid to contrast the smooth and rounded lines of the clouds and smoke, which also portrays how within the house is comfort (thus the rounded edges) and outside of the house are challenges and adventures (the sharper edges). In addition, I made the house’s lights look like they’re on with a yellow glow to evoke a sense of heat and warmth within the home, almost as if a fire was lit within. Lastly, I included a grain overlay to the final project to make the artwork look slightly worn and as if it were printed on textured paper. This is meant to make the artwork look weathered and faded with time.
