I arguably noticed three years (or twenty two years) too late that the village I grew up in is unique, in the way these small places can only be. It took my most recent visit, where I started cycling around, to think 'Maaaaaaybe those stone statues of an eye on a pillar that have always been there aren't common'. Couple minutes later: 'I could make a zine out of this'.
Thusforth hence, WARMHOUSE. The title came from the name of the town, Warmenhuizen, which translates into warm houses. The house represented is where I was raised, but I didn't have a picture. So I went to google maps streetview. On which I can be found in 2009 by the way. This led to the next brainwave: 'What if I drew all the illustrations based on the real inspiration from streetview, others (YOU) could go explore and find them!' Couple minutes later: 'If I draw the map with the spots on the back then I make proper use of the medium and it could be a helpful guide'. And then, IT LINED UP! I can't take credit for it as it wasn't purely genius but moreso a very happy accident, but the part of the map that shines through the paper lines up perfectly with the actual pages. The dots for the potato stand and the trading library can be seen behind their illustrations.
