Hi there! My name is Joanna Cruz and I am the President of PFC and a 3rd year PharmD student at KGI. I am from Ventura Country where I attended CSU Channel Islands and received my B.S. in Biochemistry in 2020. I have been a part of PFC for 3 years now and I have loved serving the surrounding community with PFC. I really believe in our mission and I have had the pleasure of volunteering in clinics either in person or virtually during the pandemic. While the pandemic set us back as a clinic, I am excited to see PFC grow to its' full potential. In my free time I like to travel and I've been to 10+ countries; some of my favorites have been Iceland, Costa Rica and Egypt!

Yun Seo Lee

Vice President

Hi, I’m Yun Seo — which is my full first name, not “Yun” — and I am the Vice President of PFC! I’m a 2nd-year Masters of Applied Life Sciences student with a concentration in Infectious Diseases, and I hoping to apply to medical school in the future. I’ve moved around a lot, but I’m currently from Irvine and attended UC Santa Barbara for a B.S. in Biology. I have always loved working in free clinics from my medical mission experiences, and I’m excited to continue with PFC to expand our reach to our local community. My role is to assist the Health Equity, Outreach and Health & Wellness committees to carry out our plans and events for the rest of the year. I love to journal, make tea and explore new hobbies in my free time!

Peacha Sokk

Treasurer

My name is Peacha Sokk, and I am the Treasurer for Pomona Free Clinic. I had the pleasure of working for PFC as co-Health and Wellness Chair last year and am thrilled to continue working to support PFC and providing a good experience for PFC members. Prior to becoming a student at KGI I worked as a middle school teacher at a Title 1 public school and have learned a lot about how to connect with families in my local community through that experience. Before my time teaching, I went to school in New Orleans and volunteered as a dance teacher at the Boys and Girls Club there. I have always been passionate about serving my community, and love that I get to do it through PFC now!

Hello! My name is Moon Azad and I am the Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator for Pomona Free Clinic! I am a current 2nd-year Masters of Applied Life Sciences student with a concentration in Infectious Diseases and I hope to apply to medical school in the near future. Before coming to KGI, I attended UC Irvine where I received a B.S. in Biological Sciences. My personal experiences living in and being part of an underserved community exposed me to health disparaties that I hope to improve actively. Aside from my education, I love being creative with different artisitic areas such as making videos of my bullet journaling or making stickers.

Melissa Vargas

MedSpa Committee Coordinator

Hi! My name is Melissa Vargas and I am the Medical Spanish Coordinator for the 2022-2023 school year. I am a 1st year PA student in the inaugural class of the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program. Prior to being a PA student at KGI, I attended KGI as a PPA student and then graduated in May of 2022 from KGI with my Masters in Applied Life Sciences. I have been a part of PFC since 2020 and was a MedSpa Workshop Facilitator in Spring of 2021 and then became the MedSpa Coordinator in 2021-2022. I am super excited to be continuing as the MedSpa Coordinator for this school year! The committee has grown so much and we are always looking to add more Medical Spanish Workshops for all of our KGI Students. I am passionate about introducing others to the world of Medical Spanish as there is a need to bridge the language barrier gap in our communities. Knowing a little bit can go a long way in the overall care of our future patients. By teaching Medical Spanish I am advocating for patients that are unable to receive proper and adequate healthcare because of a language barrier. Overall, I want to be able to help others so that they can help their future patients. In my free time I enjoy watching movies/shows and spending time with my boyfriend and family!

Dustin Tran

Outreach Coordinator

Hello! My Dustin Tran and I will be serving as the Outreach Coordinator for Pomona Free Clinic. I am a first year Master of Applied Life Sciences graduate student and I hope to apply to medical school in the future. I have had the privilege of working as an emergency responder (EMT-B) throughout Orange County and Los Angelos. From this experience, I discovered my passion in connecting with the underserved community. I am excited to step into this position to look for opportunities to serve and connect with the local community. Mental health advocacy is something I am also passionate about. I hope to raise community awareness of mental health issues to help eliminate the stigma and making it easier for people to seek help. On my free time I enjoy rock climbing and reading books. One thing I hope to do is travel to other countries in the far future.

Hi! My name is Sarina Patel, and I am the Health & Wellness Co-Chair of Pomona Free Clinic! I am currently a 1st year student in the inaugural cohort of the Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Prior to attending KGI, I attend UCLA where I achieved a degree in Psychology. My extensive experience working and volunteering in medicine have exposed me to a variety of populations including underserved communities, sparking my desire to help those in need. In my efforts to actively make a difference, I have taken the role of providing education on common health and wellness and providing hygiene kits to residents of Pomona. Alongside other PFC members, I am advocating for those who reside within disadvantaged communities. When I am not practicing medicine or volunteering, I enjoy quality time with my friends and family, dancing, going to the beach, and painting!

Hi everyone! My name is Christina and I am the other Health and Wellness Co-Chair! I am a first year PPC student here at KGI, but I may stay one more year to complete a Master of Science in Applied Life Sciences. Prior to KGI, I attended UC Irvine where I graduated with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Medical Anthropology. As a board member, I am eager to provide free, high-quality health care education to underserved communities. Overall, I am interested pursuing a career in dentistry to provide dental care to everyone, regardless of race, sex, or religion. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, painting, traveling, and hiking!
