When arriving for the first time, players see the gym leader Max meeting with a pair of weirdly-dressed people. He tells them he won't help them and sends them away.
The first of this region's gyms is found here. By challenging the gym and defeating Max, players can set sail from the docks toward their next destination. (But only if they get their ticket from the ticket building first.)
In the ticket building, a Poké Maniac with a Pawniard wants to trade it for a Zigzagoon. Players can trade either form of Zigzagoon to him.
During the gym challenge, a customer tells the player about a friend of theirs who can help with training Pokémon who's waiting by the lighthouse. This friend can be paid to raise Pokémon to the level of a gym leader's ace, at the cost of setting the Pokémon's EVs and happiness to zero.
The Pokémon Center's mart occasionally updates its stock after a gym is defeated.
In the phone booth, Dr. Thorne gives a quest requiring players to capture a Sandile, Krokorok, or Krookodile, and show it to him in his laboratory.
A couple of Pokémon Breeders live across the road from the Pokémon Center, who are attempting to domesticate Rockruff. One of them gives players a quest to show her a Rockruff at level 25, the level they usually evolve at, in exchange for one of the evolution stones this region's Rockruff require to evolve.

Mariville Town's Gym Leader, Max, specializes in Grass-type Pokémon. Challengers can face him to earn the Garnish Badge.
This is a diner staffed solely by ex-convicts. Max is an ex-convict himself, who hires others in his position to help those who've served their time get back on their feet without needing to resort to the same things that got them in prison to get by.
If players talk to the cashier after defeating Max, they mention that the player can sit at a table and have a meal, but this has not yet been implemented.
To earn the right to battle Max, challengers must assist in taking orders from the customers seated outdoors behind the diner.
There are five diners seated outside who have not yet had their orders taken, signified by a lack of food on their tables. Once players have taken their orders, they have to return to the kitchen and correctly recall what the orders were.
Due to how carefully Max takes care of the outdoor seating area's lawn, all battles in the Gym take place on permanent Grassy Terrain.
The customers' orders will not appear as options if the player goes to the kitchen without actually talking to them first.
The customers and their orders are as follows:
The lass seated near the water wants a Roseli Tea.
The balding guy also near the water wants Spaghetti.
The blonde guy in the middle wants Shuca Curry.
The sailor wants the Seafood Surprise.
The shady-looking guy way off in the corner wants a Black Coffee.
The first time the player talks to the sailor, they say they want "The Usual". If players then go to the kitchen, they're reminded the kitchen staff has no idea what "The Usual" is, and are told to talk to the sailor again. Only the second time they talk to the sailor are they actually given the sailor's order.
A number of waiters are rushing around the outdoor seating area. Getting in one's way will result in a battle.
Once all five orders have been given to the kitchen successfully, Max will be waiting outside for a battle.
(Battle takes place in permanent Grassy Terrain.)
