WALKING GUIDE DEVELOPMENT
GUIDE MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT & TESTIMONIALS
With over a decade of experience in recreational walking guide design, I have developed a versatile A4 guide sheet system alongside bespoke materials. This modular system adapts effectively to various applications, including themed walks, cycle routes, and nature trails.
This practical work complements my academic research, which examines how recreational walkers engage with different types of navigational materials.
The Point2 Template System Evolution
The A4 modular template system debuted in 2016 with Malvern Hills District Council's 'The Teme Valley Trail' project, focusing on family walking and cycling routes. The system was refined through extensive field testing and walker/cyclist feedback.
"Andy always instilled confidence and a professional attitude which in turn produced high quality outcomes. All in all it was a great partnership."
- Malcolm Salisbury, Economic Development Lead, Malvern Hills District Council
The system has since evolved to incorporate digital features, including GPX file integration for navigation apps and interactive PDF companion sheets for mobile devices, providing enhanced contextual information for each route.
Recent Applications
The system currently powers the 'Rail Trails Worcestershire' project, where its integration with GPX route files has received notable recognition:
"I wanted to write to you on behalf of WCRP for all your work on Rail Trails so far. Without exaggeration, it simply wouldn't have been possible without you. The expertise, knowledge and enthusiasm you have brought to the venture has been instrumental in creating this fabulous resource for Worcestershire."
- Fiona Saxon, Rail Trails Worcestershire, June 2023
The template system has also proven valuable for diverse applications, including supporting new walking holiday businesses and developing town nature trail guides:
"Andy at Point 2 Guides has been integral in helping me get my new walking holidays business off the ground. He has created brilliant maps with beautiful illustrations incorporated in high quality user-friendly guides for my guests. Nothing has been too much trouble for him and I am thrilled with the end product."
- Arabella Salwey, Owner @The Lodge, Ludlow
The 2 main ways the template system can be used
As an interactive .pdf 'companion' sheet giving key additiomnal details and context alongside a .GPX file used in a naigation app (like O/S Maps).
As a printed A4 guide sheet giving key key route details and context alongside an O/S map.
