RAILWALKING
RAILWALKING PROJECTS
Sustainable tourism is evolving, with the fusion of recreational walking and rail travel leading the way. Following the successful collaboration on the Rail Trails Worcestershire project, I've teamed up with like-minded individuals to blend walking with rail travel. This group, Railwalks.co.uk, consists of volunteers working on various projects in this genre.
UK Coastal Railwalks
One of our main projects involves mapping all walking routes around the UK coastline that can be combined with occasional railway use. For example, you might take a linear coastal walk between two stations and then hop on a train back to your starting point. Alternatively, you can begin a multi-day coastal walking holiday from a train station and return via train to your starting point or home.
Railwalks Events
We've already hosted several events as a group, including our inaugural opening event in Worcester, attended by enthusiasts from across the UK. In summer 2024, we held our first 'Festival of Railwalking' in Bristol, which attracted participants from both the UK and Europe!
We're already planning various events for 2025 and beyond. For more details, check out railwalks.co.uk
