.Pdf files
Pdf (or 'portable document format') files are high resolution/detailed visual files that can be downloaded and viewed on most smartphones. They can be zoomed into and still remain clear and detailed.
In addition, each .pdf guide file here is A4 size and can be printed out from a PC or similar should the user prefer to use them so.
Note: These map sheets are designed to work alongside the local Ordnance Survey map of the area and not replace them. Users who download these map sheets to use as navigation are recommended to use the accompanying local Ordnance Survey map or a suitable navigation app. You use these files at your own risk and are responsible for you own walk and equipment.
.Gpx files
A .gpx file contains a route and 'waymarkers' (typically directions at key points), and can be uploaded to a number of phone-based navigation apps like Viewranger or the O/S navigation app.
The detail and elements you can access will depend on the individual app's capabilities, but in its most basic form your navigation app should show the route and act as a compass to guide you at any given point. Apps don't ofteen show supporting information of the type we supply on our companion sheets however.
Note: While we supply the corresponding .gpx files to these guide sheets, we're not responsible for the capabilities and functions of the individual navigation apps which may treat these files in several different ways.
