Joe Herndon has been one of the most in demand trumpet players in the Pittsburgh region for over twenty years. Joe has played with various jazz, pop and classical artists including Tony Bennett, Wayne Bergeron, the Temptations, Toshiko Akioshi, Maceo Parker and countless other accomplished musicians.
Over the course of his career he has performed countless musical theater shows with the Pittsburgh Broadway Series Orchestra, Pittsburgh CLO, Pittsburgh Musical Theater and the Pittsburgh Public Theater such as Wicked, Hair, Cats, Cabaret, Carousel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Chicago, Newsies, and Aladdin to name a few.
Joe is currently the leader and lead trumpet player of the Balcony Big Band, a member of the Billy Price Band and performs with many other groups in the greater Pittsburgh region. Joe can be heard on many recordings including The Balcony Big Band Chapter Two, Sworn Testimony, Strong, and Alive and Strange by The Billy Price Band and the self titled album Azucar to name a few.
From an educational perspective Joe is the trumpet professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Geneva college. Joe has guest directed numerous PMEA jazz festivals and has performed clinics with high school and college ensembles across PA.

A Western Pennsylvania native, Rick grew up in Natrona Heights, PA. In high school Rick started his own New Orleans Jazz Band playing gigs around the community.
After High School, Rick attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania on a full scholarship for music education. At IUP, Rick was lead alto in the Heads Jazz Band, Principal Clarinetist in the IUP Wind Ensemble and an active member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. He later attended Duquesne University for Wind Ensemble and Band Conducting. The large part of Rick’s 25-year teaching career has been at the Knoch School District in Saxonburg, PA, where he has directed the marching, concert, middle school jazz, and high school jazz bands, along with the jazz combo as well as the school’s pit orchestra for the High School Musical.
His ensembles receive superior ratings at The High Notes Adjudication Festivals held at
Duquesne University and his Pit Orchestra has been awarded the Henry Mancini Award for Outstanding Student Orchestra seven times. Along with ensemble awards his students are annual participants in PMEA Concert and Jazz Band Festivals across the state and the country including NAfME All-East and National Concert Band.
As a musician, Rick is a sought after freelance performer in the greater Pittsburgh area and has held many permanent positions through the years in the Clockwise Quartet, Jazzmine Quartet, Gibbons Big Band, MiSandz, OneAccord, G.R.T. Jazz Trio, Trinity Jazz Orchestra, Skippy and the Boys Polka Band, The TMG Big Band, ReCover, Frankly Speaking, RMR Jazz, Jazz Supernova and his most recent, The Elite Showband based in Palm Springs, California. Rick has performed and recorded with the TMG Big Band and national artists such as Adam Brock from American Idol and Paul Vesco with Martini POP.
One of Rick’s favorite memories as a musician was having the opportunity to perform on Bourbon Street at the International Association of Jazz Educator’s Conference in New Orleans, LA.
