Drum Instructions

Each drummer must submit Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 in order have a valid audition.  

Please use sticks throughout (not brushes).

Part 1

Play-along with “Last Week” from John Riley's book, The Art of Bop Drumming

• Efforts should be made to catch the written figures

• Provide appropriate comping throughout the tune

• When recording, the "Last Week - Without Drums" MUST be playing in the room.

Part 2

Perform the following style (Please use a metronome while practicing, but you will audition without a click):

• Bossa Nova (play at quarter note = 120)

• 4/4 time signature

• Play 16 measures

• Use idiomatic comping/fills

• NO PLAY-ALONG TRACK OR METRONOME

Part 3

Perform the following style (Please use a metronome while practicing, but you will audition without a click):

• Salsa/Mambo: (play half note = 110)

• 4/4 time signature

• Play 16 measures

• Use idiomatic comping/fills

• NO PLAY-ALONG TRACK OR METRONOME

Part 4

Play-along with the "Groove Blues - Lead Sheet", from Snidero's Jazz Conception. 

• Use of the "Groove Blues - Transcription" can be used for practice

• When practicing, you can use the track "WITH Drums." 

• When recording, you must use the track "WITHOUT Drums."
