OUTREACH
Dearest friends and co-labourers of God, I greet you in the Name of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Please pray along with me:
O God our Heavenly Father, we praise and thank you that we are your handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which you prepared in advance for us to do (Eph 2:10). We often forget that we are created in your image, O God, and that we should be reflecting your goodness, your kindness, your love, and your compassion to people in our community. Constantly remind us, Father, that they are also created in your image – and that we need to look beyond what we see on the surface to discover that they are your handiwork as well. As we venture out to meet these people at their needs, help us to realise that these are the good works that you have prepared in advance for us to do. We thank you that, despite our helplessness, you have decided to allow us to partner with you to bring good news to the poor, to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, to bring sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, and to proclaim the year of your favour.
We pray that each and every member of our church knows that Eph 2:10 is his/her calling – that you are calling them to be partners with you in the restoration of this broken world into a new heaven and a new earth. We pray, Heavenly Father, that you will move their hearts to step forward to participate in the various outreach ministries available to them – to feed the hungry in the rental blocks (Blk 223A Serangoon Central and Blk 8 Lor Lew Lian), to bring comfort and encouragement to the homeless and rough-sleepers whom we minister to, to bring friendship to the elderly in the St Luke’s Eldercare centres that we go to, to nurture the children in Hope Student Care Centre, to bring healing to the abused and love to the unloved in the Anglican Family Centre, and to bring joy to the Migrant Workers when we go for outings with them. We also pray that you show us other places in the community where we can bring your love to. And we pray for individuals and cell groups to step forward to answer your call.
Above all these good works and good deeds, we pray, Heavenly Father, that you will give us the wisdom and the boldness to bring the Gospel to the people in the community. We ask you to place in us the conviction that Jesus is at the centre of everything that we do. He is our King, and we obey his command to be his witnesses in our own “Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria” and even to the ends of the earth. We need strength and wisdom to go and teach the people in our community everything that our King has commanded us. We ask for opportunities to share the Good News and to share it with clarity and conviction. We ask that wherever there is hard soil, to soften it so that it will respond to the Gospel that we will sow. And we also humbly ask that whenever and wherever the harvest is ripe and ready, you make us a welcoming people and a welcoming church so that we can bring our community friends into your glorious Kingdom.
We thank you, O God, that you will not forget the work that we do nor the love that we show you by loving the people in the community through our outreach efforts. We affirm that we are not doing this to gain any reward here on earth, but that we do so to share your Kingdom with those we meet. We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
