PRAYER FOCUS

40 Days of Prayer (40DOP)

In this Year of Empowerment, we know that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. So even as we seek to enable ourselves, we must first seek the Lord in prayer, worship and devotion, which we will do as a church from 1 Mar to 9 Apr

We have prepared a 40-day devotional to help us with our prayer and devotional life during Lent. The devotions will be posted in PLMC TODAY every Saturday from 25 Feb onwards. We have a limited number of printed copies for those who have difficulty reading the devotions online which will be available for collection from the Church Reception from 25 Feb onwards and at the Fellowship Hall on Sun 26 Feb.

We will come together as a church to pray every Wed in Mar, 8pm, Sanctuary. Come and be empowered!

OUTREACH

Dearest friends and co-labourers of God, I greet you in the Name of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Please pray along with me:

O God our Heavenly Father, we thank you for giving us the opportunity to bless the families in Lor Ah Soo during the recent Lunar New Year period. We thank you for all the cell groups from the English Service, Mandarin Service, Youth Service and Filipino Service who responded to the call to deliver the Lunar New Year blessings to over 1,000 households in the Lor Ah Soo blocks situated next to Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School. We also thank you for the cell groups who were unable to do the delivery because of elderly members and members who have problems walking – they still participated by packing over 1,000 blessing bags. We also thank you for the cell groups who quietly remained in the background and prayed during the entire event. We humbly ask that you bless all of them, O God, for doing this good work in so many ways.

Heavenly Father, we also thank you for softening the hearts of the residents whom we visited. We thank you that they were open to receive our Lunar New Year blessing bags, and some were even open to accept being prayed for. We ask that through this event, the residents there will know a little more about you and will eventually seek you and your Kingdom. And so, O God, we pray that our cell groups will be moved to continue this work of building bridges into the lives of the residents that they have come across there – even after the church-organised event. We pray that through building of relationships and friendships, our cell groups will be able to sow the seeds of the Gospel into their lives.

In this rainy season, O God, we pray that our homeless and rough sleeper friends will be able to keep warm and find proper shelter from the elements. We pray that our engagements and conversations with them when we visit them will also warm their hearts. We thank you that two of them have decided to return to church and attend the Mandarin Service, and that one of them has returned to join us in our Sunday Bible Class. Truly, O God, we are privileged to partner with you in this work – we will do the sowing work; we leave the turning of their hearts to you, Heavenly Father.

We pray also for the poor and needy families in Blk 223A Serangoon Ave 4 and Blk 8 Lor Lew Lian. We pray that the food and essential groceries we bring to them are sufficient to meet their needs. We pray for the volunteers and co-workers there who not only do the physical work of delivering the food and essential groceries but also the spiritual work of ministering to the families and showing them the love of Jesus by serving them. We thank you that one elderly and infirm resident from Blk 223A has recently given her heart and life to Jesus and was baptised. We thank you for the volunteers and co-workers who were ministering to her. We praise you, O God, for bringing her into your Kingdom. We rejoice along with all the angels in heaven.

Keep the passion in us burning for you and for the people whom you love, O God. We will look at all the people in our community through your eyes. And we will try our best to see Jesus in them so that as we serve them, it will be as though we are serving your Son himself. We pray all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen!
