Dearest friends and co-labourers of God,
I greet you in the Name of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Please pray along with me:
O God our Heavenly Father, we praise and thank you that you are a God of new things and new beginnings. As we stand at the beginning of 2023, we look back on 2022 and gaze in wonder at the abundant blessings you have blessed us with. And we look forward with confidence to 2023, knowing that you will bless us as we move to do the good works you have assigned us to do in our community.
We pray for those who are hungry and needy – those who hunger for physical food as well as for righteousness, and those who need financial support and emotional support. We remember the families in Blk 223A Serangoon Ave 4, Blk 8 Lor Lew Lian, and Serangoon Central. Allow us to feed them and support them materially and spiritually. Give us the ability to show them that you can restore their dignity, their self-worth, and their self-esteem by restoring your image in them.
We pray for the children in the community, those in Hope Student Care Centre, and those in the Anglican Family Centre. We pray that as they begin a new school year, you give them the desire to learn and the gift of knowledge. Help them to excel in the talents that you have bestowed them with; and in those areas and subjects that they are not so strong in, give them perseverance to grow. We pray that they will have teachers who will love them and give them godly advice and fill them with godly values. Surround them with friends who are encouraging, even as they encourage their friends. We ask that you shine your face upon them and give them peace of mind during their tests and exams. Help them to know with confidence that you are always with them.
We pray for the homeless and our rough-sleeper friends. Heavenly Father, some of them choose to rough-sleep because their families are broken. We ask, O God, that you will bring restoration to their broken relationships. Soften hearts that have been calloused with hate, unforgiveness, and bitterness. For those who have no homes, we ask that you look upon them with mercy and help them to find the shelter that they desire. We pray that you will use us to bring your love and comfort to all our homeless and rough-sleeper friends. Through us, O God, let them know that you love them and want the best for them. As we minister to them, help them to realise and know that they can find the rest, restoration, and abundant life only when they choose to enter your Kingdom.
We pray for the elderly in the community, especially those whom we minister to at St Luke’s Eldercare and ECON Medicare. Heavenly Father, bless them with good health as they live in their twilight years. Give us the strength to minister to them and to give them a listening ear. Many of them feel lonely in the Centres, so through us, O God, let them know that they are never alone and that you are always there beside them. We pray for the nursing staff at these centres, too. Bless them with wisdom, forbearance, and strength to manage and take care of our elderly friends.
In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen!
