Owing to the dangers posed by the infectious disease known as COVID-19 and the safe distancing restrictions in force in Singapore to minimise further spread, and in accordance with the authority vested in the Local Church Executive Committee (“LCEC”) by ¶306A.4 of The Book of Discipline, Notice is hereby given that the Last Local Conference of Paya Lebar Methodist Church has been called by the LCEC to be held wholly by way of electronic means on 22 September 2020 at 7.30pm to transact the following business:

1. Confirmation and Adoption of Minutes of the First Local Conference 2020 held on 28 January 2020

2. Matters Arising from the above Minutes

3. Receive and Adopt the 2019/2020 Reports of Paya Lebar Methodist Church

4. Recommendation for Renewal of Local Preacher’s Licences

5. Any Other Business

Do keep the Last Local Conference and our church leadership in prayer.

The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS) will be holding its Twelfth Session of the General Conference (GC) from 7–11 September 2020 and 2–4 December 2020 via Zoom.

Items you can pray for:

• Logistics and preparation for online meetings, including all technical details and measures required

• Elections of major office-holders such as the Bishop, and Chairpersons of various Councils that oversee the church's work over the next four years

• Decisions made on behalf of the MCS, such as matters of church law and policy, including amendments to The Book of Discipline, which are debated and discussed before being accepted

• Delivery of reports on work done the last four years and the plans for the coming four years and beyond

• Good health, protection and alertness of the delegates and supporting staff, that the proceedings may be carried out smoothly and thoroughly

• Attend all the BMC Sessions (via Zoom) on 26 Sep, 3, 24, 31 Oct, 7 & 21 Nov (10am to 12pm).

• Participate in a Ministry Weekend (assigned to attend one on either 10 or 17 Oct 9am-2.30pm).

• Join a PLMC Cell Group.

• Attend the Infant/Child Baptism Class on Mon 9 Nov 7.30-9.30pm. You will be advised on the venue.

• One parent must have already been baptized or attending the present BMC.

To stand in solidarity with the government’s efforts to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the church office will remain closed in Phase 2 of the re-opening after the Circuit Breaker until further notice. Worship services and activities like teaching classes, cell meetings, spiritual direction, counselling, and social, worship or prayer gatherings are still prohibited onsite, but are encouraged to continue online. We will continue to monitor the advisories from the government and will update you through PLMC Updates when there are any changes. In the meantime, please look out for the various online offerings by the various ministries here in PLMC TODAY.

Silver Boxes
1. Thank God for Benedict who baked the special desserts to bless our teachers on 29 August.
2. We thank God for new people who have stepped up, to help to present the Bible lessons for our children.
3. We thank God for Rachel who will be speaking to our P1-6 children on 6 September online.
4. Pray for our Kindy children's programme online as we share about courage with them on 13 September.
5. Pray for our upcoming Children's Day programme at the end of September. We are collaborating with the Young Adults Ministry.
6. Pray for our P6 students as they take their PSLE Listening Comprehension paper and prepare for their PSLE.

Sonshine Kids
1. We thank God for the commitment of our leaders who meet the children online every Saturday. We also thank God for the good response of the children.
2. Pray for our P6, Sec 4 and JC2 students who are preparing for their major exams. May they experience God in a very tangible way. Psalm 32:8.
3. Pray for our planning committee as we plan for our events for the next quarter of the year, for God's wisdom and alignment to His will. Ps127:1.

1. We thank God for His grace for opening up the opportunities to carry out the sacrament of Holy Baptism and Confirmation for our brothers and sisters. We give thanks for our 10 brothers and sisters who were baptised into the Body of Christ on 22 August 2020 and 37 candidates from the English service received as members into the PLMC family. We also thank the church staff’s effort in making the occasions possible despite the current situation.

2. Pray for participants in the ALPHA course that they will have a personal encounter and experience with God during the Holy Spirit Encounter weekend and their hearts will be turned to the Lord in faith.

3. We thank God for our session with Ps Matthew Tan on God’s healing. Let us pray for the participants to be inspired and encouraged to act in faith to bring God’s healing to those they encounter. Pray for those who were ministered to by Ps Matthew to continue to experience God’s healing and care.

Thank God for His faithfulness and favour in the past 20 years, growing us from a little fellowship to where we are today. Pray that God will continue to raise a new generation of men and women of faith, who love and follow Him as He unfolds His plan in the new season.

1. Please pray for our youths as they enter into the examination period, especially for our N/O/A level students as they start their prelims.

2. Please pray that our youths will be kept safe and healthy especially from the COVID-19 virus

1. Pray for our YAs studying in the polytechnics as they finish their exams. Pray for a restful vacation thereafter.
2. Pray for our YA cell to grow in the word and fellowship together as they continue to meet.
3. Pray for our YA volunteers as they partner with the Children’s Ministry to bless our Sliver Boxes children this month.
4. Pray for more leaders to step forward and be willing to serve in the YA ministry as cell group leaders
5. Pray for the 18 year olds who will be joining the YA ministry next year.
6. Pray for safety and protection of those YAs who are serving in the military.

The Paya Lebar Methodist Church Bursary aims to help children from low to mid-income families especially those who are affected by COVID-19 pandemic, and is open only to PLMC members and regular worshippers. The application period is between 1 and 30 September 2020.
