For everyone, we grapple with how we should response to the sick, weak, and impending economic chaos. In the last 2,000 years, the Church has endured several devastating plagues. What lessons can we learn from them, as we enter into a post-lockdown norm?

Dr Lai Pak Wah, Principal of Bible Graduate School of Theology, is the keynote speaker for this session. He will bring us through a short survey of how Christians in different era respond to their own pandemics and what we can learn from them. After his keynote talk, the panellists will discuss and respond to Dr Lai's sharing. Together with Dr Lai, the panel will help and guide us through the process of Christian thinking and respond to related issues in our own time.

Prayer Focus

GENERAL
(Click arrow to expand & read more)

  1. We thank God for the decrease in the number of COVID-19 infections among the migrant and local populations and for those who have recovered. Continue to pray for recovery for those who are still sick here and around the world. Praise God also for the many who have come forward and stand shoulder-to-shoulder to fight the disease.

  2. As more countries ease COVID-19 lockdowns, pray for governments to know how to balance between health and economic concerns and for people to act wisely and responsibly to prevent further infections and spread of the disease.

  3. Pray for protection for the elderly who are more vulnerable to the disease.

  4. Pray for help and understanding from the public for persons with disabilities who may have difficulty in adhering to safe distancing measures.

  5. Continue to pray for a cure and/or vaccine against the virus to be found quickly.

  6. Pray that God in His mercy will bring a quick end to the severe recession which has impoverished and threatens the livelihood of millions.

  7. Pray for the spirit of cooperation among countries as the world battles the pandemic.

  8. Commit to the Lord the tensions on the Korean peninsula and between China and countries like the United States, India, Australia and Britain. Pray that God will speak to all parties, calming anger and giving them wisdom and patience to deal with disputes and conflicts.

  9. Pray for wisdom as we learn to cope and adjust to the new normal post-pandemic.

  10. Pray for wisdom, guidance and creativity as churches find new ways to reach out and minister to their flock. Pray for all God's children to be able to return to church soon to worship, fellowship and learn together.

  11. Even as we pray against COVID-19 let us also pray against the spread of Dengue in Singapore and in the region.

Care & Healing

PLMC Care Hub (with FAQ)

Care Hub is formed to support and journey alongside our members / worshippers whose lives and livelihoods have been affected by this crisis. The end goal of Care Hub is pastoral care, for someone to journey with them and remind them they are beloved of God and to find strength in God to face the challenges.

Each individual has a different starting point in their journey. But each will appreciate a spiritual friend to journey alongside. This spiritual friendship is the backbone of Care Hub.

As each individual has different needs, Care Hub serves as a one-stop helpline where an individual can obtain support in the church in various areas.

Care Hub has 2 levels of support:

  1. A Spiritual Friend aka Care Befriender is assigned to each Applicant for a period.

  2. Professional Intervention will be provided on a needs basis, for example:
    a. Professional Counseling
    b. Spiritual Direction
    c. Career Coaching
    d. And more…

If you have been affected by this crisis, Care Hub is here to support you. Please let us know here https://carehub.plmc.org. We are rolling out the English version of Care Hub first, and the Chinese version will follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need to be a worshipper at PLMC to obtain help for Care Hub?

As long as you have been worshipping with us, either on-site or online, you are welcome to obtain help from Care Hub. We seek to journey with you as a family of faith during, and beyond, the COVID-19 period.

2. Is it compulsory for a Care Befriender to journey with me?

Yes, it is. We are not designed to journey alone. The church is the Body of Christ and each of us is a part of the body. Having a Care Befriender in this journey is to experience the community and interdependence of our Triune God. God is never alone; we need others too.

3. How long will the Care Befriender journey with me?

Each person has a different journey. Each journey is unique. In general, the Care Befriender will journey with you 3 – 6 months. Let these be a meaningful journey of deepening in God through the company of another.

4. Can I request for pastor to be my spiritual mentor/counsellor?

Yes, you can make the request, but we are all called to be a priesthood of believers hence most likely a mature believer will be assigned to journey with you. Trust that it is God’s hand that has led you thus far, and He will ensure that you are mentored or counselled by the right person with the necessary spiritual gifts for you.

5. I am not affected by COVID-19 but I need someone to talk to. Do I send my request through Care Hub?

No, Care Hub specifically caters to those who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and its ramifications. Please contact the relevant ministry that caters to your need directly. Contact details can be found at the end of this site, under ‘Our Ministries’.
