The Glowing Years Ministry (GYM) aims to touch the lives of our seniors through activities that invigorate them with a spirit of self-enrichment, healthy social interaction and physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.
Before the Covid-19, we were able to find a niche to meet the needs and expectations of GYM Members by organising a broad spectrum of initiatives, projects & activities.
This video gives you a glimpse of GYM key attractions which, we are proud to to say, have attracted many participations and sustained the enthusiasm of our members.
One of the highlights is the Weekly Line Dancing that has attracted over 160 members in the interactive dance and light-hearted exercises. The oldest lady member of 70 years joins the group because she loves music, upbeat movements and fellowship that has motivated her to continue. Over time, the Line Dancing’s popularity has grown so much so that we receive frequent invitations to perform in grand events such as TRAC Senior Ministry Anniversary Celebration, TRAC Senior Ministry Christmas Party, PLMC Church Camp, etc. Our Ukulele Group, likewise, has blossomed to attract new players to bring cheer and joys through engaging and lively songs during various festive occasions.
The Senior Connect, held every second Thursday of each month, is another innovative event that has received overwhelming response. For two years consecutively, it consistently engaged an average monthly attendance of 50 members.
Through self-enrichment talks, members were equipped with knowledge on “Mental Well-Being and Dementia”. We also organise healthy cooking demonstrations by Health Promotion Board (HPB) to remind members to embrace healthy eating habits. Members showed their appreciation by giving feedback like they had 'a very meaningful morning', and liked the 'rich & warm fellowship'. They also thanked our Committee for a 'fruitful service'.
We continue to promote healthy living by embracing a holistic and active lifestyle and graceful ageing.
However, during the COVID-19 Pandemic we are unable to organise and conduct any in-person activity. Instead, we connect with our members through WhatsApp and Zoom sessions to disseminate the key message that the Covid-19 should be marked by the Christian virtue of measured mutual concern, and by not panicking but heeding our Saviour’s encouraging warning, “Do not be anxious about your life ... Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul” (Matthew 6:25, 10:28).
Glory to God for keeping our members and their families safe and healthy during the pandemic crisis.
