WWII project- you choose your topics

Objective: To dive deeper into WWII as it unfolds across the world in the Pacific and European theaters. Also, discuss how leaders, military personnel, technology, and strategy changed the outcomes of the war.

Student Task: Go through the 2 major theaters (European and Pacific) and pick 2 events/battles/conferences (terms) from each. You will have a total of FOUR activities when you are all done, two from each theater. You will be required to do outside research for this week's activities.

European theater (pick 2 activities, call them 1 & 2)

EVENT/BATTLE/CONFERENCE (ACTIVITES 1 & 2)

1) Invasion of Poland (Blitzkrieg)

2) Invasion of France (Miracle of Dunkirk)

3) Battle for Britain (Luftwaffe and Royal Airforce)

4) Battle of Stalingrad (Vasily Zaltsev, Soviet sniper)

5) D- Day (Operation Overlord)

6) Yalta Conference (Big 3 meet)

7) Battle of the Bulge (Victory day in Europe)

PACIFIC THEATER (PICK 2 ACTIVITIES, CALL THEM 3 & 4)

1) Invasion of Manchuria (Invasion of Northern China by Japan)

2) Attack on Pearl Harbor (Battle of Midway)

3) Battle of Iwo Jima (Battle of Okinawa)

4) HIroshima and Nagasaki (A-Bomb)

5) Island Hopping (Victory over Japan Day)


*** FOR EACH ACTIVITY:

  1. Explain the context and background of the event/battle/conference

  2. Explain the importance of the event/battle/conference and the effects of each

  3. Create some sort of visual aide or drawing and write a summary of what it is below it. (it can be digitally created or a picture/drawing).
