Outdated Testing Protocols

Some donors have been permanently banned from donating plasma and placed on the National Donor Deferral Registry (NDDR) due to plasma centers using outdated testing protocols. These protocols can lead to false positive results, incorrect permanent deferrals, and long-lasting consequences such as being unable to donate blood or organs, access insurance, or obtain certain employment. Even after follow-up tests show negative results, outdated testing methods can leave donors on the NDDR with no clear path to correction. Donors are encouraged to share their story to help document experiences, show patterns, and support understanding of plasma donor rights. A legal consultant can review lab results, registration paperwork, and deferral notifications to determine if any steps may help address the permanent deferral.
