Growing up in Silence
by: Jhonny Compuesto
Growing older is part of life, but one problem I have experienced is growing old without knowing how to express my emotions. Sometimes, I feel happy, sad, worried, or hurt, but I do not know how to explain what I am feeling. I often keep my emotions to myself because I am afraid that other people might not understand me or might judge me.
Keeping my emotions inside has both good and bad effects. One good thing is that I have learned to stay calm and think before I speak. However, the bad side is that keeping everything inside can make me feel lonely and misunderstood. There are times when I want to talk to someone, but I cannot find the right words to say what is in my heart.
To solve this problem, I started trying to understand my feelings first. I learned to give myself time to think about what I am feeling and why I feel that way. I also started writing down my thoughts when I could not say them out loud. Little by little, I became more comfortable sharing my feelings with people I trust.
As I grew older, I realized that expressing emotions does not mean that I am weak. It is okay to tell someone when I am happy, sad, worried, or hurt. I learned that being honest about my feelings can help me understand myself better and build stronger relationships with others.
This experience taught me that growing up is not only about becoming older but also about learning how to understand yourself. I want readers to learn that they should not be afraid of their emotions. Sometimes, the words may be difficult to find, but it is important to try. We all deserve to be heard and understood, and expressing our emotions is one step toward becoming a better and stronger person.
Lesson that Shaped Me

Life is full of experiences that teach us important lessons. I have learned many things from my family, friends, teachers, and my own experiences. These lessons have helped me become a better person.
One lesson I learned is to never give up. Sometimes, schoolwork can be hard, and I may feel tired or disappointed. However, I learned that I should keep trying and do my best.
I also learned to appreciate the people who support me. My family, friends, and teachers are always there to help and encourage me. Their support makes me feel thankful and gives me the strength to continue.
Another lesson I learned is that making mistakes is normal. Mistakes help us learn and improve. Instead of being afraid of making mistakes, I try to learn from them and do better next time.
In conclusion, my experiences have taught me many valuable lessons. I learned to work hard, appreciate others, and never give up. I will always remember these lessons as I continue to grow and face new challenges.

In my 12 years of schooling as a senior high school student, I can honestly say academic pressure was among the most stressful of challenges. Given the vast amount of assignments, projects, quizzes and deadlines that needed to be completed and submitted at the end
of the month, I often experienced being worried and stressed thinking I wouldn’t be able to live up to everyone’s standards. In other words, there were times I lost all hope and wanted to quit when it came to my academic life since I truly aspired to achieve.
Although being academically pressured wasn't easy, I’d say it brought forth positive and negative consequences. Positively, it somehow developed me to become a responsible and organized individual, efficient with my time, and encouraged me to work hard to get the best out of myself. In the contrary, negative effects were in linewith experiencing sleepless nights, stress, and an xiety which could be very distracting. To successfully cope with the pressure, I’ve learned to manage my time efficiently by creating schedules for tasks, prioritising them, and listing the priorities that need to be accomplished first. Furthermore, I’m open to asking help from my teachers as well as from classmates if there’s any lesson I couldn’t comprehend. I also make time for short breaks, pray, and spend quality time with my loved ones to avoid burnout.
With the progress of time, I was eventually able to realize that life isn’t really fair - problem is part of it. These hardships allowed me to mature, become more patient, more resilient, and ultimately become confident about my skills.
In spite of the difficulties I encounter, I don’t see the point of giving up, for it leads nowhere. I learned through this experience that the path to success is never smooth; in fact, there will always be bumps along the way. You can
manage academic pressure if you know how to organize your time, be ready to seek help, and believe in your capacity. It’s my hope that this experience will inspire fellow students to keep on fighting, for they always say that every problem has an answer and every challenge
can help you gain something from life.
