The Bantoanon or "people from Banton (Island)" actually reside mostly in Odiongan, Corcuera, Calatrava, and Concepcion in Romblon. They speak the Banton language, which is a Visayan language closely related to Hiligaynon. They are known for their craftmanship, particularly in pottery-making and weaving.
Banton Island, along with the rest of Romblon province, played a role in the Philippine Revolution against Spanish. The Bantoanon people, like other Filipinos, fought for independence and self determination.
