Higaonon is one of the least ethnolinguistic group. Settled in North-Central Mindanao occupying the mountainous regions of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon. This rugged terrain is known for its pristine beauty and rich cultural heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. The province is home to the Kalinga people, an indigenous tribe known for their bravery, artistry, and unique way of life.
The Higaonan are a nomadic tribe, travelling from one nomadic tribe, settling from mountains to mountains hunting for fertile soul for a bountiful harvest.
As their history of venturing mountains to another, their name are split to three; higa (living), goan (mountains), and onon (people), forming a description as the “people of the living mountain”.

Higaonons are renowed for being peace-loving people, as they aim to solve internal conflicts of other ethnic groups. One prominent symbol from the literary pieces is the the Higaonon costume which stands for pride and identity of their tribe.
